Supernova Interaction with a Circumstellar Medium
نویسندگان
چکیده
The explosion of a core collapse supernova drives a powerful shock front into the wind from the progenitor star. A layer of shocked circumstellar gas and ejecta develops that is subject to hydrodynamic instabilities. The hot gas can be observed directly by its X-ray emission, some of which is absorbed and re-radiated at lower frequencies by the ejecta and the circumstellar gas. Synchrotron radiation from relativistic electrons accelerated at the shock fronts provides information on the mass loss density if free-free absorption dominates at early times or the size of the emitting region if synchrotron self-absorption dominates. Analysis of the interaction leads to information on the density and structure of the ejecta and the circumstellar medium, and the abundances in these media. The emphasis here is on the physical processes related to the interaction.

The imprint of presupernova evolution on supernovae remnants
The evolution of type Ia supernova binary system progenitors is highly uncertain. Several evolutionary models predict that the accretion of mass onto the white dwarf is accompanied by mass ejection from the binary in the form of a powerful wind, but very few observations have been made during the initial phase of formation of supernovae remnants, when the interaction of supernova ejecta with pr...

The Exceptionally Luminous Type Ii-linear Supernova 2008es
We report on our early photometric and spectroscopic observations of the extremely luminous Type II supernova (SN) 2008es. With an observed peak optical magnitude of mV = 17.8 and at a redshift z = 0.213, SN 2008es had a peak absolute magnitude of MV = −22.3, making it the second most luminous SN ever observed. The photometric evolution of SN 2008es exhibits a fast decline rate (∼0.042 mag d), ...
متن کاملSHELL-SHOCKED DIFFUSION MODEL FOR THE LIGHT CURVE OF SN 2006gy
We explore a simple model for the high luminosity of SN 2006gy involving photon diffusion of shock-deposited thermal energy. The distinguishing property of the model is that the large “stellar” radius of ∼160 AU required to prevent adiabatic losses is not the true stellar radius, but rather, it is the radius of an opaque, unbound circumstellar envelope, created when ∼10 M, was ejected in the de...
متن کاملTHE IMPRINT OF PRESUPERNOVA WINDS ON SUPERNOVA REMNANT EVOLUTION: TOWARDS MORE REALISTIC MODELS FOR TYPE IA SUPERNOVA REMNANTS AND THEIR SPECTRA C.Badenes and E.Bravo
Supernova remnants are usually analysed in the light of hydrodynamical models of the interaction of supernova ejecta with either a constant density ambient medium or a circumstellar medium produced by a constant presupernova wind. However, the ejection of energetic wind during the presupernova phase changes the ambient medium structure and, consequently, the early supernova remnant evolution. W...
